So that if someone else on your team looks into the issue, they can see any comments/ideas you may have about it.

   I'd love that too. Lots of times one person will look into an error, know the cause, but want to hand it over to someone else.

   It'd also eliminate time wasted when someone looks into the cause, not knowing that another person has already done the legwork.
